LandmarkAR — Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Edward Aspen Designs ("we", "us", or "our") operates the LandmarkAR mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use LandmarkAR.

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Location Data

LandmarkAR collects your device's GPS location while the app is in use. This is the core function of the app — your location is used solely to:

  • Find Wikipedia landmark articles near your current position

  • Calculate the direction and distance from you to nearby landmarks

  • Display augmented reality overlays in the correct compass direction

We collect location only while the app is open and active ("When In Use" permission). We do not collect location data in the background.

2.2 Data We Do NOT Collect

LandmarkAR does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

  • Your name, email address, or any account information

  • Device identifiers, advertising IDs, or fingerprints

  • Camera images or video — the camera feed is processed entirely on-device by ARKit and is never transmitted

  • Usage analytics, crash reports, or behavioral data

  • Any data to our own servers — the app has no backend

3. How We Use Your Information

Your location data is used exclusively on-device in real time to provide the App's augmented reality landmark feature. It is not stored after the app session ends, not transmitted to Edward Aspen Designs, and not shared with third parties, except as described in Section 4.

4. Third-Party Services

LandmarkAR makes network requests to the following third-party services to retrieve landmark information. These requests include your GPS coordinates so the service can return relevant nearby results.

4.1 Wikipedia / Wikimedia Foundation

Wikipedia is a free, public API operated by the Wikimedia Foundation, a nonprofit organization. Coordinates sent to Wikipedia are used only to return geographically relevant search results.

4.2 No Advertising or Analytics SDKs

The App contains no third-party advertising SDKs, analytics frameworks, or tracking libraries.

5. Data Retention

We do not retain any personal data. Location data is used in real time on your device and is discarded when you close the app. Your selected language preference is stored locally on your device using Apple's standard UserDefaults mechanism and never transmitted off-device.

6. Children's Privacy

LandmarkAR is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete such information.

7. Data Security

Because LandmarkAR does not collect or store personal data on our servers, the risk of a data breach involving your information is minimal. All location processing happens on your device. Network requests to Wikipedia are made over HTTPS.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Because we hold no personal data on our servers, there is nothing to access, correct, or delete. You can revoke location permission at any time via:

iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → LandmarkAR

Revoking location permission will prevent the App from functioning, as location is required for its core feature.

9. International Users

LandmarkAR is available globally. If you are located outside the United States, please be aware that your location coordinates are transmitted to Wikipedia's servers (operated by the Wikimedia Foundation), which may be located in the United States or other countries. By using the App, you consent to this transfer.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
